Political Capital

I don’t think I’ve seen a better example of the need for political revolution than this clip from Hardball 1/12/2016 :

 Here’s a short transcript:

Chris Matthews: “If I were Hillary Clinton I'd be quite angry with the Vice President of the United States.  Is it her fault for not being nice enough to him, offering him something, something in the new term,  Secretary of state or something to get him on board? Because he's not on board

…..

 Chris Matthews:

”Why don’t they offer him state or something for a couple of years.  Normally in politics when two people want the same job one sort of moves the other out by giving them a piece of the action

It struck me just how brazen an admission this is.  If you break it down it’s basically “why haven’t the Clintons bribed Joe Biden away already?” Bidens crime was mentioning the Sanders has “tapped into a yearning” in the electorate (amongst the unwashed masses) and mentioning that Clinton has been much later to that game.  Therefore he’s “Not on board”.   Get on board Joe don’t you know the DNC has picked its front runner?  Look at the other talking head around Chris.  They are unphased by this.  Nodding like; “yeah you’re right they should have bribed and horse traded away any Biden ‘concerns’ by now”.   This cronyism, and the MSM’s willful ignorance and/or support of it, are exactly what we are revolting against.

This kind of speaks to why so many establishment pols and even some well established union heads and non-profit leaders have come out early for Clinton.   If you think about it, there’s no harm in front running and endorsing Clinton because you know when it’s all said and done; the door to Bernie’s office is still going to open to you.  He’s like that.   I’m not sure the reverse is true.

Imagine you’re the head of a long established non-profit (that may or may not get direct Clinton Foundation funds) or union, your donor/supporter list is a who’s who of Democratic celebs.   You get this call from Clinton or a Surrogate:

“Hey, great seeing you at the dinner the other night,  Kim and Kanye are great aren’t they? How much money did we raise for you again? Anyway, it’s a tough news week for us and we could really use an announcement of support from you guys can we count on that?”

Regardless of what your members or constituents might feel, there’s very little down side to “getting on board” Bernie is not going to punish a good organization just for having come out for Hillary, if he wins.  So in some ways Bernie “Good Guy”“Honest & Trustworthy” perception, that works well with actual voters, works against him when it comes to endorsements.  The perception of Clinton (Whether it real or imagined) is that she the “tough” “establishment”“insider”, (again not saying this is true but speaking of perception) makes people who hope to work inside the democratic party more afraid she’ll “extract her pound of flesh” for not “getting on board”.   Until now there’s also been the air of “inevitability” around Clinton thanks to the MSM and Clinton Surrogates insisting “she’ll be the nominee”.  Smart political calculus, up until now, said “back the front runner” ( even from our beloved KOS ).  But with a win in Iowa and New Hampshire the Calculus becomes a lot friendlier to Bernie.
